US $50 Bill Design Change

Concerning the MoneyChecker™ models; 6000-H, 6008-H, 6000-A and 6000-U:

On September 28th, 2004 the US Treasury released the newly designed $50 bill. The incorporation of Color is the most noticeable difference, as with the redesigned $20 Bill. This update is to inform users of the MoneyChecker that the yellow fluorescent security stripe has been moved to the left of the bill by approximately ½ inch. This moves the location of the "new" $50 bill security stripe to the left of the $10 bill Security Stripe instead of being to the right.

The MoneyChecker template shows the $50 bill security stripe in its original location. The MoneyChecker units can still be used as always to verify currency authenticity, the only difference is that the new $50 bill yellow fluorescent security stripe will not line up with the yellow stripe on the template of the MoneyChecker. However the MoneyChecker template will still line up with the previously issued $50.00 bill. The new yellow fluorescent security stripe is approximately 30% wider than the stripe in the previously issued $50.00 bill. It is important to note that the previous $50 bill will continue to be in circulation.

Angstrom Technologies will provide updates as the other denominations are redesigned. As mentioned above, only the $20 bill and the $50 bill have been redesigned and released to date. The Treasury is expected to unveil the new design of the $10 bill around the spring of 2005 and expected to issue the new $10 bill in the fall of 2005. The $100 bill will be designed at a later date (no release date for the $100 bill has yet been provided by Treasury).

Angstrom will continue to advise its customers of any US currency design changes that affect the use of the MoneyChecker. At this time the Treasury cannot divulge whether or not the security stripe will be moved in the redesign of the remaining denominations. It is also important to note that the redesign changes of the $20 bill did not affect the placement or width of the UV fluorescent stripe.

After the release of all remaining denominations, the feasibility of redesigning the MoneyChecker template will be assessed.

Angstrom Technologies would like to thank all of those who use the MoneyChecker as we strive to maintain the accuracy and quality of this tool.

Our best regards,

Angstrom Technologies, Inc.
